Education & Experience
I received my Bachelor's degree in psychology from McGill University in Montreal and my Master's degree in clinical counseling from the University of Denver. I have had the opportunity to work at Arapahoe Douglas Mental Health Network and Third Way Center which provides mental health treatment for teens at risk in the Denver area. Following that I was the primary therapist at Share Family and Community Services in Vancouver, British Columbia. In this position I provided counseling services to families with children aged 2-18.
How I Work
I take a strength based approach to counseling which involves identifying the positive and building on current and past successes. My personal style is honest and direct- no jargon here! I most often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a highly effective, evidence based approach to treatment. I use CBT in treating children, adolescents and adults. I also utilize play therapy in my practice. Play therapy is a widely used, well-researched approach that allows children to express themselves and resolve their problems in the way that is most developmentally appropriate- through play. This article from the Association For Play Therapy provides an excellent description and rationale for the use of play therapy.
